In The Begining

On the 13th April 1980, the inagural meeting of the society was held in Nottingham and the Northern Lop Circle was born.  At this time the breeds catered for by the cirlce were, English Lops, French Lops and Dwarf Lops.  A full executive office was elected, along with committee and memebrships enroled at this time consisted of 21 Adult Members, 2 Senor Citizens and 6 Juveniles (as the were called then, now they are called Juniors).  From our records, only two members from the initial conception are still active within the club today.  Christine Terry, our President and Steven Smith - Life Judge.  From these beginnings the club has grown from strength to strength and the Lop Rabbit has grown in popularity.  We even now have our own Lop Sections at shows, but in the very begining the Lop was confined within the 'Fancy' section.

In 1989 another Regional Lop Circle was formed within the boundries of the Northern Lop Circle and in order for this club to gain BRC recognition the Northern Lop Circle had to change from a Circle to a Club to allow the sister club to nestle under our umbrella.  This was the Yorkshire & Humberside Lop Circle.  And from that moment on we were to be known as THE NORTHERN LOP CLUB.

The Tenth Anniversary Show

On the 9th September 1990 at Bacup, the Northern Lop Club celebrated its birthday in style.  With seperate judges for each breed and our President of the time, Arthur Bluff offciating Best In Show for us, this was always destined to be a Lop Show to rival all shows.

Over 300 Lops

The main hall at Bacup had never seen anything like it.  Over 300 Lops were present and had grown in breed numbers since the conception of the club.  Cashmere Lops had seens been recognised by the BRC and along with the French, English & Dwarf Lops, the site was an amazing scene.  Best In Show went to Mr & Mrs Tarpey - Jaymar Stud with a lovely white Dwarf Lop buck and Runner Up Best In Show went to Shirley Wheeler with a Black Butterfly Frenchie.

The only show to ever rival this ammount of Lops gathering in one place these days is the ALL LOP show hled every year at the begining of December, where all national clubs hold their Adults Stock Shows.
